About us

History

The process of preparing and adopting plans for Sarajevo District began immediately after the end of the WWII. The first planning company was established already in 1947. In 1952, 1954, and in 1979 it was renamed and restructured. The Institute continued working throughout the recent war 1992 – 1995 showing resilience and resistance in extreme circomstances. In 1998 it became the Sarajevo Canton Institute of Planning and Development with the main goal to create planning basis for the capital city and Sarajevo Canton to have optimal conditions for pleasant living, sustainable and protected environment for its residents and visitors.

What do we do

The Institute is a main workplace  for shaping the Sarajevo Canton urban planning and development.

  • We prepare and implement the Cantonal development strategy 2021-2027;
  • We create zoning and development plans and prepare corresponding regulations in coordination with cantonal municipalities, the City of Sarajevo, and Sarajevo Canton;
  • We coordinate planning decisions with local and international institutions and experts;
  • We participate in  long-term development scientific projects and studies for Sarajevo Canton;
  • We monitor implementation of strategic development projects and promote Sarajevo Canton;

 

We perform additional assignments entrusted by the cantonal, the City of Sarajevo and municipal assemblies and Cantonal Government.
